Evolvi - The corporate rail specialist

How rail can support sustainability & wellbeing in corporate travel

More corporate rail journeys are being managed through Evolvi platforms than ever before, partly as a result of the financial benefits of a managed rail booking environment, but also because environmental considerations are persuading businesses to mandate rail over other modes of transport.

"Evolvi booking systems have provided corporate users with C02 emissions information linked to rail journeys for many years, detailing comparisons with road and air travel during the booking process," said Andrew Cantrell, Evolvi Managing Director.

"While this data was originally used by businesses for reporting purposes to government, the debate has now become much more of a Corporate Social Responsibility issue in line with wider society's greater concern for environmental impact and sustainability."

For example, a passenger journey from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh (journey duration: 04:31) is responsible for CO2 emissions of 25.85kg, while for the equivalent for air travel is 160.12kg, and for car (petrol) 113.59kg (DEFRA calculations).

Even when electric vehicles eventually overcome challenges in range and charging infrastructure, rail travel will still likely win out for the majority of business users because trains not only connect to city centre locations, they also (most times) provide a more stress free experience than road journeys. Employee wellbeing is increasingly a key issue for businesses and when combined with environmental considerations, train travel offers distinct advantages over other forms of travel.

Train travel also enables employees to work much more effectively on business trips.
